Angie's Little Victory

I just want to take a minute and gloat: I bought a new shirt and a pair of jeans in my old size when I was about 7 months pregnant and they were my "goal" clothes. I'm SUPER excited to report that I fit into my new outfit a few days ago!


I still have a few pounds to lose before I'm back to my pre-pregnancy weight so it was a snug fit, but hey, it fit!

It's just nice to have a figure again! :)

Sleep? What's That?!

Sadie is almost 2 weeks old and we're trying our best to adjust to newborn life...


"Tired" does not even begin to describe the incredible fatigue we've felt over the last couple weeks! Every time she falls asleep it feels like a little victory :)



She already seems to have changed--just over the last few days. She's getting bigger, eating more and looking more like Spencer than Angie!

Our Family Announces A Few More Ounces!

She's here! Spencer and I are the very proud parents of our new baby girl: Sadie Gillespie. She was born November 1, 2008 at 10:50 pm. She weighs 7 lbs. 8 oz. and is 20.5 inches long.



In case you're interested and haven't heard already, here's the story of her birth:


It started out a normal Saturday: we slept in, ate breakfast, got ready for the day and ran a few errands. We went out for lunch and ordered our food but by the time it came, I was having contractions every few minutes and was also feeling nauseous. The contractions weren't consistent nor were they super painful, so we just went home to relax. After just a few minutes at home the contractions were getting closer together and more painful so we decided to head to the hospital. Spencer was great. He got all our bags packed, installed the car seat and loaded everything in the car.
We checked in at 2:00 and I was already 100% effaced and dilated to 6 cm. I got my IV and the epidural (the best thing on earth!) and when they checked me again I was 8 cm. We thought we were gonna cruise! I started pushing at 8:30 pm and things were going well (for 2 full hours...) until Sadie's heart rate dropped suddenly. They put an oxygen mask on me and had me change positions to try and get her heart rate back up. We were warned that if her heart rate didn't come up quickly and I couldn't push her out fast that I'd have to get a c-section. They even tried to use a vacuum on her head to get her out faster, but she had so much hair that it kept slipping off! So with everything I had left (which wasn't much) I pushed her out in the next 2 contractions and we found the problem: her umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck twice, tied in a knot, and wrapped around her arm. So every time I was trying to push her head out, the cord was getting tighter and tighter around her neck. She was here, but she was blue and not breathing. Spencer ran over to her and I sat on my hospital bed just praying "breath baby, breath." The great doctor and nurses got her breathing very quickly and she only cried for a few seconds and then just wanted to look around the room with her great big eyes! It was a very scary time and we were so worried about her but she's a fighter and she was determined to get here safely.


Sadie is so beautiful and absolutely perfect. We feel so blessed that she made it here ok and she is the greatest addition to our little family. We love her!
