Sisters

Sadie has LOVED having a little sister!  She's adjusting really well; trying to help with EVERYTHING Afton needs.  You can catch her giving Afton an extra blanket, her binky or her bottle several times a day  :)

Every morning when Sadie wakes up she says, "I want to hold Afton." 

It only lasts for a few seconds, but Sadie doesn't want anything else until she's held Afton.

Sadie LOVES to share Afton's blanket and lay down as close to her as possible.

I'm sure we'll have our fair share of fights between these two in the coming years, but they sure do love each other!

We'd like to introduce you all to our newest tiny bundle of joy!

Afton Gillespie

What a different labor experience this was from Sadie's.  I got checked at the office on Friday afternoon and I was 4 centimeters and 75% effaced.  I started having contractions, but nothing consistent so I just went about my day like usual and told Spence he could head to work.

I started having pretty painful contractions every 2 minutes after work around 6:00, but they still weren't totally consistent.  I'd have 2-3 contractions in 5 minutes, but then go 10 minutes without one.  I called Spence and told him I was contracting but I wasn't sure if it was time to go in.  He said, "I'll take my chances.  I'm coming home."  I packed our last few things for the hospital and we took Sadie to Grandma Nyman's.

My contractions slowed down while we were driving to the hospital so I started second-guessing the decision to go in...  Spence said we were going anyway.  Smart husband I guess. 

We checked in the hospital around 7:30 pm and I was 5 cm and 80%.  Even though my contractions weren't consistent, they said they'd keep me since I was already a 5.

 I decided to just walk around for a while before getting my epidural since my epidural seemed to slow things down with my previous labor.  I gave in and got it a couple hours later and it actually sped up my labor this time!  My contractions were now every 2 minutes consistently and I was progressing quickly!  My blood pressure kept dropping after getting my epidural and I was getting really dizzy and lightheaded.  After the worst reading of 76/40 they gave me some medicine in my IV to raise it and that helped a lot.  My doctor came in and broke my water and said I could take a nap while I finished dilating.  Spencer and I both slept for about a half hour and when they woke me up at 12:45 to check me they said it was time to push!

I got to hold her immediately--no tight cord around her neck causing problems like with Sadie.  Loved it!


 I started pushing around 12:54 and I was SO NUMB I couldn't feel a dang thing.  I was so frustrated!  I literally couldn't feel anything below my waist at all and didn't know if the "pushing" I was attempting was even helping.  Shelly reassured me it was working and only 10 short minutes later, Afton was here!

She has lots of light brown hair and is a little clone of Sadie!  She seems to be very calm so far and we are loving every minute of this new adventure! 

We're so grateful she came so safely and is doing so well.  Feel free to come by for a visit and meet our new beautiful daughter!

Guessing Game

We are DYING to meet this little girl!  And we'd love to know when you all think she's gonna come and how much she'll weigh!

Here are a few facts from Sadie's delivery:
I was due November 10th and delivered on November 1st
My labor started on it's own but my water didn't break til I was in the hospital.
I was having contractions every 3 minutes when we got to the hospital and I was dilated to 6 cm.
My labor lasted 9 hours total and Sadie weighed 7 lbs. 8 oz.


If you know me at all, you know how crazy I am with numbers.  I would LOVE to have this baby on a neat day.  Most people don't understand my reasoning for what constitutes a neat day, so I won't take the time to explain, but here are some of my favorites for this baby:  1-21-11,  1-22-11,  1-31-11,  2-1-11,  2-4-11,  2-7-11.

I'm currently dilated to 3 cm and I'm due 2-10-11, so leave a comment and cast your vote!  There is a prize if you guess right on!

A Lookback

Goodbye to 2010!  Instead of my resolutions, here's a little recap of how last year went...

I made goals.  I didn't keep all of them.

I spent more time with my family.  I fought more with my family.

I held grudges from the past.  I tried to forgive and forget.

I splurged.  I saved.

I bought things I didn't need.  I got rid of a lot of stuff. 

I tried new restaurants.  I cooked more at home.

I got pregnant.  I started planning for #2.

I took a lot of pictures.  I wished I'd taken more.

I yelled some.  I laughed a lot.

I lost weight.  I gained weight.

I took the high road.  I acted like a stubborn brat.

Most of all, I woke day after day and was grateful to have my good job, my beautiful family, and my fantastic friends.

Two Year Pictures

Spencer's cousin-in-law just started a photography business and we were dying for some 2 year pictures of Sadie, so we killed 2 birds with one stone and she took some family ones for our Christmas card too!

She captured Sadie's personality perfectly.   (And I'm sure deleted 100 pictures of Sadie giving a dirty look.)  Also, keep in mind I'm about 32 weeks pregnant in these so don't judge...
