The Reason I Blog

"You will have significant experiences. I hope you will write them down and keep a record of them, that you will read them from time to time and refresh your memory of those meaningful and significant things. Some may be funny. Some may be significant only to you. Some of them may be sacred and quietly beautiful. Some may build one upon another until they represent a lifetime of special experiences." -- Gordon B. Hinckley

Dentist

We took the girls to the dentist a few weeks ago and made it through with very few tears and best of all, NO cavities!

Sadie has possibly the WORST gag reflex ever.  She has a pretty tough time with the x-rays and always thinks she's gonna fall off the exam bed, but she pulled through and only complained about the "spicy" mint floss.

Afton, on the other hand, was terrified.  She thought the idea of the dentist was great but the actual "people putting their hands in my mouth" thing was not so awesome. She calmed down when they put headphones on and let her watch Tangled on the ceiling.  :)

Good thing we only have to do it once or twice a year!

Hazel's Blessing

Hazel was blessed by her daddy on Cinco De Mayo.  We had a TON of family and friends there to support us and it went off without a hitch.

So thankful for my husband who did a beautiful job with her blessing and for my incredible little family.  What a good day.

Thoughts of a third time mom...

Being a mom is hard some days.  There are up-every-hour nights, early morning wake up calls, crying fits several times a day, appointments full of tears, time outs, a sink full of dirty dishes, piles of laundry, piles of toys, and a lot more that can make you want to lock yourself in your room and indulge in the closest piece of chocolate you can find.

Almost daily I think to myself "I have to do better tomorrow.  Things will go better tomorrow."  Thankfully, I get that chance.  But still, I find myself making the same mistakes, losing patience because of the same things, and forgetting to enjoy the moments as they happen.  Sometimes I am simply going through the motions and trying to get through the day.

I constantly remind myself that these moments won't last.  That tomorrow they will be a little closer to not wanting to hold my hand or sit on my lap.  Sometimes I'm able to really enjoy them.  Sometimes I can sit and take it all in, even when it's 3:00 am and I'm pulled out of bed by a screaming baby or scared little girl.

The room is dark, but it's just me and her.  And I'm in love with what I have.  I stare at her and admire the length of her eyelashes, the smell of her hair, the perfection of her skin - and I say a silent prayer for that moment to last forever.  The night is quiet and it is just me, my girls, and that overwhelming feeling of love and gratitude.

Hazel's Newborn Pictures

I can't believe my tiny one is almost six weeks old!  We got some newborn pictures taken of her about a month ago and Jeff captured her little personality perfectly.  They are stunning.

Beautiful, isn't she?

Spencer's 30th

Happy Birthday to the best husband a girl could ever ask for!

We love celebrating birthdays around here and I really wanted to do something big since it was Spencer's 30th, but we were pretty limited with a 3 week old so we kept it pretty simple.

We had a delicious breakfast at Kneaders and then drove up north to check out Scheels with the kids.

We didn't know how well the girls would like the ferris wheel, but they both had a great time.  Sadie has already asked to go back for her birthday.  :)

I did manage a couple small surprises for Spence that night.  He really wanted to go out for dinner so we got a babysitter for all 3 girls and I arranged to have a few friends meet us at the restaurant.  We had an awesome time and laughed a lot

After dinner, we came home to his last suprise.  This:

My friend Natalie of Chandelier Cakes made him this incredible Batman cake in his favorite flavors--Red Velvet and Elvis!

He said it was the best birthday yet.  Mission accomplished.
Happy Birthday babe!  We love you!
