The Reason I Blog

"You will have significant experiences. I hope you will write them down and keep a record of them, that you will read them from time to time and refresh your memory of those meaningful and significant things. Some may be funny. Some may be significant only to you. Some of them may be sacred and quietly beautiful. Some may build one upon another until they represent a lifetime of special experiences." -- Gordon B. Hinckley

4th of July Fun

We have a love/hate relationship with July 4th.  It's one of our favorite holidays but Spencer usually works A TON of crazy hours so we don't get to do as much with his family as we'd like.  This year, Spence didn't have to work Tuesday, the day before the 4th, so we did all our real celebrating that day.

We just love the balloon festival in Provo.  The kids think it's extra cool because Spencer's uncle and cousin both fly a balloon so we get to be right up close and help fill it up.

A little cold in the early morning

 Helping hold the balloon open

 Watching the fire

Afton thought it was super cool to touch the balloons

Starting to fill up all around us

After the balloons, we were treated to a breakfast at the park that's put on by the Kiwanis Club that my dad is a part of.  So nice to just walk 20 feet and get a hot breakfast!

We saw Spiderman that afternoon (SO AWESOME) and then just hung around and played with cousins.

We kept the fireworks to a minimum this year because of all the restrictions and fires and just did a few small ones.  Spence and Dave even stood by with a hose and 2 buckets of water, just in case.

(My eyes were still a little sensitive, so I wore my sunglasses the whole time)

The actual 4th was pretty laid back for us.  Spence worked all day so we didn't do much.  We were able to get together with the Gillespie's for dinner at the park before the Stadium of Fire which was way fun.

The kids had a fantastic time playing in the sand volleyball court.

We didn't get to stay long since Spence had to report  back to work, so I took the girls home to bed and watched a movie...  Some day we'll get to spend the whole holiday together, right??  :)

Happy Independence Day!
